~Carolina Crossroads~
Part 2!
(Click here for printer friendly version)

This is unit #2!  You will need 100 of these "accent in the corner" 9 patches made from 1.5" strips!

I want you to look very closely at these 9 patches so you get the value placement correctly!  It's the same as an "all light in the corners" nine patch but one of the light colors is replaced by red!  Remember that anywhere you see red in my blocks, is where you are going to use your accent color in your blocks. It should still have the other three corners as light....and the 4 side squares being your other colorway. Scrappy if you are doing scrappy.....but the lights and darks all need to be in the same format!

I sewed three types of strip sets:
  • Light/blue/light
  • blue/light/blue
  • red/blue/light
Your colors will vary according to your own color scheme but it is important that you end up with lights in three corners, and your accent color in the remaining 4th corner of theb lock. The center of the 9 patch must also be a light!

Sew your strip sets from1.5" strips  pressing seams towards the (blue) strips.  Cut into 100 1.5" subsections per color way.  Assemble into 100 9 patches. Press last two seams towards the center strip of the 9 patch units.

Filler Units!
These are the easiest units in the quilt! You don't have to piece them :c)

You need 25 neutral 3.5" squares, and 16 blue (or whatever your color is where I have blue) 3.5" squares!
Set these aside for later!

No peeking forward until you have the 100 "accent in the corner" 9 patch blocks done!
